Expedition for sampling the snow-cover and water of the South Baikal Rivers
On March 4-5, an expedition to take snow cover samples and river water samples was carried out within the State Assignment of LIN SB RAS No. FWSR-2026-0017 “Study of the components of the carbon cycle, biogenic elements and other chemicals in natural objects of Baikal region under climate change and anthropogenic loads” (led by T.V. Khodzher).
Snow samples were taken in estuarine zones of rivers and large settlements of the southeastern coast of South Baikal. Water samples were taken in the Snezhnaya, Solzan, Mishikha, Pereyomnaya, Utulik, Khara-Murin, Malaya Pokhabikha and Pokhabikha rivers.
Samples of snow (39) and water (10) will be analyzed for a wide range of pollutants of organic and inorganic origin in order to assess the contribution of natural and anthropogenic sources to the formation of chemical composition and pollution of the natural environments of South Baikal in the winter of 2025-2026.
