Limnological Institute SB RAS discussed the future of robotic research of Lake Baikal

A delegation from the Far Eastern Branch of the RAS, headed by Academician Yu.N. Kulchin and including Academician G.I. Dolgikh (POI FEB RAS), visited LIN SB RAS. The visit focused on boosting collaboration between POI FEB RAS and Irkutsk Branch RAS in developing advanced research technologies for Lake Baikal and coordinating joint Pacific expeditions.

The key issue of the meeting was the prospects for the introduction of autonomous underwater robotic systems for deep water operations. LIN SB RAS presented the results of trial operations of the MMT 3500 autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle (AUV).

The vehicle, built by the Institute of Marine Technology Problems (IMTP FEB RAS, named after Acad. M.D. Ageev), passed Baikal field tests successfully.
