Open days in LIN SB RAS and celebration of the Day of Russian Science

On February 5-6, our Institute held open days dedicated to the Day of Russian Science for children from different schools of the city. About 120 schoolchildren came to learn about the work being done by Irkutsk limnologists. The guests were told what the work of a research diver was, and the bravest guys decided to literally visit the diver`s “skin”, trying on a full set of equipment on themselves. The students then learnt how to cultivate Baikal fish aquaculture, examined the Baikal phytoplankton microcosm through the microscope's eyepieces, and discovered the tools used in hydrological research. The kids received memorable gifts and a scientific quiz at the conclusion of the excursion.

On February 7, on the eve of the Day of Russian Science, for the employees of our Institute, the Council of Scientific Youth and the Trade Union Committee organized a screening of the popular science film “On Thin Ice”, similar to the Echo of the 20th Film Festival “Man and Nature.” A festive buffet table and guitar performances by our staff marked the end of the evening.
