VI-th International Baikal Symposium on Microbiology finished its work
The VI-th International Baikal Symposium on Microbiology, “Microorganisms and Viruses in Aquatic Ecosystems,” was held on September 9–13, 2024, at LIN SB RAS, dedicated to the study of microorganisms and viruses in freshwater ecosystems. More than fifty leading Russian and foreign specialists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Bork, Togliatti, Kirov, Kazan, Tomsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Kyzyl, Khabarovsk, Ulan-Bator (Mongolia), and Xiamen (China) took part in the symposium.
The Symposium included oral and poster presentations on the diversity of bacterial and viral communities in freshwater bodies, molecular-genetic studies of microorganisms and viruses, modern microbiological and virological monitoring of water bodies, biofilm formation, associations with hydrobionts, and microbial degradation of pollutants and xenobiotics.
The participants visited the Laboratory of Aquatic Microbiology of LIN SB RAS, the Freshwater Aquarium Complex, and the Instrument Centre for Collective Use of Physical and Chemical Ultramicroanalysis. They also went on field trips to Irkutsk, to the “Aquarium of Baikal Seal” in Listvyanka settlement, and to the LIN SB RAS station in Bolshiye Koty settlement.
