The other day, the schoolchildren from the “Children`s Arctic Academy” visited our Institute
On February 16 and 19, the “Children`s Arctic Academy” visited our institute. This is an educational project for schoolchildren from different cities in the Russian Federation implementing a program of comprehensive study of Lake Baikal. On the first day, the staff of the Institute gave a lecture on “Zooplankton and phytoplankton in the under-ice period on Lake Baikal”. On the second day, the young researchers were introduced to the work of the diving research and underwater monitoring group of the LIN SB RAS Ichthyology Laboratory. The children were then shown the work of the Interactive Monitoring Centre, where data from automatic equipment installed at several stations around the Baikal Natural Area and Lake Baikal is collected and processed online. The schoolchildren also visited the “Experimental freshwater aquarium complex of Baikal hydrobionts”, a unique scientific installation, where they learnt about the nuances of whitefish aquaculture cultivation. The meetings were busy, the children asked questions and actively participated in the discussion. At the end, after exchanging contacts, we agreed to continue working together!
