On February 8, our country celebrated the Day of Russian Science. A number of events dedicated to this holiday were also held at the Limnological Institute.
Since February 8, an exhibition of photographs is opened; it presents footage of recent circum-Baikal monitoring expeditions, expedition materials provided by employees who went to the lakes of Yakutia in the “Pole of Cold” area, microphotographs of the objects under study, etc.
On February 9, schoolchildren of 10-11 grades of the Secondary School No. 4 of the Shelekhov District visited the Institute. Young researchers visited the "Experimental Freshwater Aquarium Complex of Baikal Hydrobionts" (FAC) - a unique scientific facility, where they were told about the features of aquaculture cultivation of whitefish. They also were familiarized with the features of conducting research using light and electron microscopes in the Center for Collective Use "Ultramicroanalysis", widely used to study diatoms and bacteria. The children looked at the work of the Interactive Monitoring Center, where data is collected and processed online. The data is obtained from automatic devices installed at several stations of the Baikal Natural Territory and Lake Baikal. Schoolchildren also had the opportunity to be familiarized with the diving research and underwater monitoring group of the Ichthyology Laboratory of LIN SB RAS.
