Expedition finishing the navigation season of 2024

Expedition finishing the navigation season of 2024 was carried out on October 20-31 on R/V Titov within the State Assignments No. 0279-2021-0004 “Study of advective and turbulent water exchange... (led by Aslamov I.A.), No. 0279-2021-0006 Studies of functioning of hydrate, oil and gaseous hydrocarbon systems... (led by T.I. Zemskaya, O.M. Khlystov), No. 0279-2021-0015 Studies of viral and bacterial communities… (led by Belykh O.I.).

During the expedition, CTD sounding of the water column was performed at 46 stations of longitudinal and transverse sections. Temperature, electrical conductivity, pH, ORP, and turbidity in the near-surface layer of water were continuously recorded during the R/V's motion. Additionally, the echo sounder signal was continuously recorded to monitor gas outputs and analyze sound scattering layers. For microbiological research, water was sampled at the station in the center of the Listvyanka-Tankhoy area.

In addition to hydrophysical research, a large amount of work has been done to maintain and modernize online environmental monitoring stations:

  • lifted from depths of 12 and 30 meters experimental autonomous recorders with thermistor chains (measuring the vertical distribution of temperature) on a steep slope in the area of the neutrino telescope (106 km of Circum-Baikal Railway). After reading the data, replacing the batteries and updating the firmware, the recorders were reinstalled until March 2025
  • a bottom cable line was laid to the planned location of the underwater hub of the hydrophysical test site, developed by the laboratory of hydrology and hydrophysics
  • nitrogen and sulphur oxide measurers are installed at the atmospheric monitoring station in Tankhoy settlement
  • at the hydrometeorological station in Tankhoy settlement installed a sensor for measuring the level of Lake Baikal and updated firmware
  • at the monitoring station for the state of the atmosphere in Davsha settlement replaced the sections of the composite meteorological mast and installed two rows of metal guy wires, updated firmware
  • updated firmware at hydrometeorological stations located on Maly Ushkaniy Island and Cape Elokhin
