Fieldwork to the Pole of Cold on April 05-24, 2022

According to the project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation № 0279-2021-0008 «From cell to ecosystem: Research of the ultrastructure of hydrobionts and their communities in the evolutionary and ecological aspect by methods of cell biology and genomics», (led by Prof. Likhoshvai E.V.), the fieldwork of Limnological Institute SB RAS (Zakharova Yu.R., Bedoshvili E.D., Mikhailov I.S., Chebykin E.P) and the Institute of Biological Problems of Cryolitozone SB (RAS Kopyrina L.I.) was organized to the Pole of Cold (Oymyakon, Yakutia) on April 05-24, 2022.

The aim of the expedition was sampling of large oligotrophic lakes of Yakutia, such as Labynkyr, Malye Labynkyrskie, Vodorazdelnoe, and Krasnoe at an ice-cover period. The water and bottom sediments were sampled to determine chemical parameters, the total number of bacteria and cultivated heterotrophs, phytoplankton assemblage number, and to obtain the total DNA of microeukaryotes and bacteria.
