Dear colleagues
Update: In view of the pandemic of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) announced by WHO and the alleged second epidemic wave in the summer and autumn of 2020, the Organizing Committee of the IVth International Conference “Palaeolimnology of Northern Eurasia” decided to hold the event in the form of a Web Conference with online broadcasting of presentations in remote access. We are currently doing our best to conduct the Web Conference in September 02 - 04, 2020.

Abstracts of the Conference published in the form of short communications in a special issue of the journal “Limnology and Freshwater Biology” at http://limnolfwbiol.com/index.php/LFWB/issue/view/13
The “Paleolimnology of Northern Eurasia” International Conference is the 4th Conference regularly held every two years. The Conference addresses a very important scientific problem of reconstruction of paleogeographic and paleoclimatic conditions in Northern Eurasia based on interdisciplinary analyses of sediment cores collected from lakes of different types.
In recent years, the interest in paleolimnological studies of the Northern Hemisphere has grown significantly. In polar regions of the Northern Hemisphere, there is a great number of lakes containing a variety of geological archives in bottom sediments that store detailed data on climate changes and ecological situations during the Pleistocene and Holocene.
Polar lakes have not been investigated carefully for a long time because of their remote geographical position. However, in recent decades, scientists from many Russian regions in collaboration with their foreign colleagues have been performing intensive studies of bottom sediments in the lakes of Northern Eurasia and reconstructions of paleogeographic and paleoclimatic conditions of the past.
Studies of lakes in the Kola Peninsula, the Urals, the Taimyr Peninsula, Yakutia, the Chukchi Peninsula, the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russian Far East, Siberia and other regions, whose history covers thousands and millions of years, revealed new original data.
Intensive paleolimnological studies in Northern Europe are being carried out, including reconstructions of natural and climatic conditions during the postglacial period, the dynamics of the water level in large basins along the periphery of the Baltic crystalline shield, and the identification of the causes and mechanisms of sharp climate changes at the boundary between the Pleistocene and Holocene.
Detailed lithologic, geochemical and micropaleontologic investigations of bottom sediments in small lakes revealed unique natural events at the boundary between the Late Pleistocene and Holocene (13000-10000 years ago).
The Conference aims to analyze the current state of Russian and international studies in paleolimnology, paleogeography, paleoecology, paleoclimate, and paleomagnetism. The Conference will promote scientific communication and cooperation between researchers from different scientific centers of Russia and other countries to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of paleolimnology and determine the prospects and plans for joint scientific researches and expeditions.
Within the framework of the Conference, there will be a training school for young researchers, with thematic lectures of the leading Russian and foreign scientists and diverse workshops in different fields of paleolimnology.
