Kostas' research group is interested in a number of projects. Metal phosphonate chemistry (synthesis, characterization and application of metal phosphonate materials), functional hybrid materials, silicon chemistry (modeling of biosilicification mechanisms), water treatment issues (mineral scale inhibition, corrosion control, metal ion absorption), controlled release of pharmaceutical ingredients, green chemistry.

Earned his doctorate in Physics (solid state NMR spectroscopy) in Leipzig. In 2001-2007 Eike Brunner was a professor of Biophysics at the University of Regensburg. At present he works as a professor of Bioanalytical Chemistry at Dresden University of Technology. His main research area is biomineralization.

Scientific interest: study of aqueous solutions of various block copolymers, gold nanoparticles. The particle size distribution, macromolecule conformational changes, polymer rheological properties, phase transition and phase separation are under investigation. Research methods include dynamic light scattering and fluorescence spectroscopy etc.
