Dear colleagues,
We invite you to participate in the VIII All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation "Algae: Problems of Taxonomy and Ecology, Application in Monitoring and Biotechnology," which, at your request, is being organized by the Limnological Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Irkutsk. The conference will take place September 7-11, 2026, in Listvyanka.
This conference is a continuation of the meetings of algologists, which are held under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Sciences every two to five years.
The I All-Russian scientific and practical conference entitled “Algological research: current status and future prospects” was held in Ufa at the Bashkir State University on November 16-18, 2006.
The II All-Russian scientific and practical conference was renamed to “Algae: problems of taxonomy, ecology and use in monitoring” and was held in Syktyvkar on October 5-9, 2009, at the Institute of Biology of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the participation of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Botanical Society and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
The III conference was international and was called the International Scientific Conference and School for Young Scientists “Algae: Problems of Taxonomy, Ecology, and Use in Monitoring.” It was held on August 25-29, 2014, in Borok, Yaroslavl Oblast. The I.D. Papanin Institute of Biology of Inland Waters of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems participated in the conference, as well as the Scientific Council for Hydrobiology and Ichthyology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Hydrobiological Society of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Botanical Society, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, and the Department of Environmental Protection and Nature Management of the Yaroslavl Oblast.
The IV All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation, "Algae: Problems of Taxonomy, Ecology, and Use in Monitoring," was held on September 24-28, 2018, in St. Petersburg at the Komarov Botanical Institute. The conference was timed to coincide with the 110th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Russian algologist M.M. Gollerbach. The St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Botanical Society, and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research also contributed to the conference's organization.
The V All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation, “Algae: Problems of Taxonomy, Ecology, and Use in Monitoring,” was held on September 20-25, 2021, in Nizhny Novgorod. It was dedicated to the memory of V.I. Esyreva, a renowned Russian algologist and founder of the Nizhny Novgorod school of algology. The conference was organized by the Department of Botany and Zoology at the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. It was decided to hold the next conference on Lake Baikal.
So, the upcoming 8th algology conference will examine several modern areas of research on cyanobacteria, microalgae, and macrophytes from freshwater, marine, and soil ecosystems. Thematic sections will be organized based on the presentation topics submitted by conference participants in the Participant Form. We will strive to organize the sections in a sequential format rather than in parallel, ensuring that each participant has the opportunity to listen to all presentations.
We hope the conference will be productive, that new ideas will emerge during the discussions, new scientific contacts will be established, prospects for the further development of algology will be formulated, and that your stay on Lake Baikal will leave you with unforgettable memories!
If you have any questions about the conference or suggestions, please contact the organizing committee at baikal_algology@lin.irk.ru.
See you on Lake Baikal!
