We are glad to invite you take a part in 5th Vereshchagin Baikal Conference held in Irkutsk on 4-9 October 2010 in Limnological Institute of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The following scientific topics are proposed for discussion at the Conference:

1. Speciation problems in ancient closed systems: molecular and classical approaches and models.
2. Evolution of genes, genomics, meta-genome analysis of biological communities.
3. Cycle and mechanisms of assimilation of silicon and other elements in aquatic ecosystems, morphogenesis of siliceous micro- and nanostructures.
4. Microorganisms: distribution and symbiotic relations in aquatic ecosystems.
5. Transport of natural and anthropogenic substances in atmosphere and on the interface water-air.
6. Hydrophysics and hydrochemistry in deep water bodies, biogeochemistry of benthic communities.
7. Lacustrine, marine and glacial high-resolution records of paleoclimates.
8. Deepwater studies.
